The Mark Ross Project // Systems, Software & Creative Execution

I like figuring out how things work. Then I usually try to make them better.

Hello, I’m Mark. I build websites and software from the ground up, solve awkward technical problems, lead creative teams, and generally have a habit of taking things apart to see what makes them tick. Based in Portsmouth, UK, I focus on lightweight, reliable systems built without unnecessary overhead.

How I tend to approach things

I have a slightly inconvenient habit of becoming interested in how things work. Computers. Cameras. Websites. Food formulations. Morris dancing. Marketing. Psychology. If something makes me wonder "why does it work like that?", there’s a reasonable chance I’ll end up taking it apart.

Whether I'm building software from scratch, repairing something that isn't working, framing a photograph, choreographing a dance, or trying to reproduce a favourite food from first principles, I tend to approach things in much the same way: understand the underlying mechanics, question the default way of doing it, and see if I can build a better version.
